Citizens for a Vibrant Community was formed in 2008 by a group of like-minded people who felt they could serve their community. The group attended city council meetings, met with local officials and tried to learn as much as they could to help revitalize their community.
Focusing on working to benefit Downtown Port Huron, the group worked on a Car Show Afterglow to go along with the local car cruise. The group also worked hard on bringing Happy Apple Days back to Downtown, but later decided that they wanted to support the arts in the area. It was at that point Art on the River was born.
In 2011, after much hard work, the group received their 501(c)3 status. This allowed CVC to branch out in a variety of ways. CVC supports many groups with their events, as well as donating funds to local non-profits.
Today the group produces Art on the River, a 3-day art and music festival on the second weekend in June. They also partner with Wolverine Market (located in downtown Port Huron) to produce the Port Huron Beer Festival. CVC has worked with the organizers of Pine Groove in the past and helped The Blue Water Music Awards.
Citizens for a Vibrant Community welcomes anyone to join the group. Many people want to help their community and be included in activities. CVC is a great way to do that! The group enjoys friendships and fun. Meetings are always a great time and social times are always planned each year.
